Hey Horn!

I'm sorry to say I only get to see this video sporadically on late night comedy channels. Too bad, because I think it's brilliant.

Overly campy and ridiculous - this is one of my favorite advertisements ever.

Music Connection - Marshall Music Experiential Shirts

When Music Connection was re-branded as Marshall Music, the company designed promotional t-shirts with the intention to communicate the name change to the market. However, the promo shirts were so popular due to their funky, visual play on the eyes, that the t-shirts became available for sale on Marshall Music.

Film the Blanks

I stumbled across Film the Blanks quite by accident and was immediately smitten with the concept. The site challenges viewers to identify films based on an overly simplified recreations of movie posters. It describes itself as "An ongoing experiment to abstract and/or reduce film posters."

In any case it's pretty cool, and showcases both famous and relatively obscure posters from the past and present. Here are a few.

Jurassic Park

Little Miss Sunshine

Shaft

Forrest Gump

Alien

Hoppípolla - Sigur Rós

First it was featured in the “Children of Men” trailer, then it was used in the concluding scene of “Penelope,” then the “Slumdog Millionaire” advertisement, now “Earth?” I mean, I can understand why the track is suddenly becoming so popular. It’s epic, dynamic, hopeful, sorrowful, joyful, and nostalgic all at once. If I worked in the movie trailer business I would have used this music ages ago.

But COME ON. The song was released nearly four years ago and Sigur Rós has offered dozens of other songs that would be wonderfully fitting in advertisements. I’m worried that Hoppípolla, one of my favorite songs, is becoming a bit...redundant. Too bad, because it truly is gorgeous.

Children of Men - Hoppípolla begins at 1:38

Slumdog Millionaire – Hoppípolla begins at 1:11

Earth – Hoppípolla begins at 1:05

Man On Wire

I really love the story of Philippe Petit and was so happy to see this documentary was finally made. The trailer for the doc captures the suspense and awe-inspiring wonder of his adventure wire-walking between the World Trade Center towers in 1974. I highly recommended this film.

The Spring Standards - May 14, Mercury Lounge

A cute video blog to promote The Spring Standard's upcoming show at the Mercury Lounge in NYC. Check it out - it made me smile! Then again, I'm very fond of these guys. Irrelevant, but charming.
